In the spring of 2023, I had the privilege of apprenticing with artist Jessandra London in Brooklyn, where I honed my skills in natural dyeing techniques. During the summer of 2023, I interned with her, assisting in a variety of naturally dyed projects and collaborations with other artists. This included organizing pop-ups and working in studios to create a series of textile products. These projects ranged from scarves and scrunchies to vintage and thrift upcycled clothing, and even collaborative naturally dyed shirts for Gitman Vintage.

This series of textiles focused on the natural dyeing of materials like silk, cotton, linen, and other fabrics, resulting in an array of stunning colors and hues. Each product was carefully sewn, curated, and dyed using natural sources such as Myrobalan, cutch, hibiscus, avocado, natural indigo, marigold, and eucalyptus. To add depth and vibrancy to the fabrics, various tie-dye techniques were employed, creating rich textures and dynamic visual effects.

This work not only highlights the beauty and potential of natural dyes but also underscores a commitment to sustainable practices in textile production. The series celebrates the intricate art of natural dyeing, showcasing how traditional methods can be used to create contemporary and environmentally friendly textiles.
