ABOUT

Mehak Surana (2000), Indian-born textile artist, and fashion designer, has made New York City her creative hub. Holding a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, she is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program in Textiles at Parsons School of Design to further her exploration of the art form.

In her artistic endeavor, Mehak is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of textiles and materiality, constantly exploring innovative approaches to incorporating consciously selected materials that respect both the environment and culture. At the core of her artistic ethos lies a commitment to repurposing, upcycling, and utilizing environmentally conscious materials. Through her art, she adeptly examines consumer trends and raises awareness about the impact of plastic consumption, offering thought-provoking insights into the intersection of plastic and culture.

She has had the privilege of apprenticing under industry experts, refining her skills in advanced weaving techniques (AVL Comp Dobby and Jacquard TC 2), embroidery design, and studio management. Collaborating with diverse teams at NYES New York Embroidery Studio, (Artist) Jessandra London and (Fashion Designer) Jonathan Cohen has further enriched her understanding of the creative process and the importance of collaboration in bringing designs to life.

Her work is a celebration of craftsmanship and creativity, as she experiment with embroidery, weaving, and print to create distinctive and meaningful pieces. Whether she is exploring sustainable materials or documenting traditional craft practices, her aim is to evoke emotion, spark curiosity, and inspire connection through every stitch and pattern.

She is keen on pursuing opportunities in the textile, fashion and art industry to continue to communicate through textile and make a positive impact in the world.
